At the Suite, we encourage our members to share stories as a way to celebrate their journey. This installment is brought to you by Becca Bennett, longtime member, friend, and all around badass. Enjoy!
“I tell people all the time that Pilates changed my life, and I wholeheartedly believe it.
I’ve always been athletic. I played lacrosse growing up, ran a half marathon in college, did all the fitness classes that were offered at UNH. Everything was great, but none of it had as positive of an impact in my life as going to Suite Pilates has.
I did my 30-day trial the first year I became a grade school teacher back in 2015. Going into it, didn’t think it was going to be my thing. I was never super into yoga and I have zero flexibility. But after my 30-days were up, I knew there was no way I was giving it up.
All the instructors were so amazing and made me feel strong and confident. They constantly lifted me up during my first year and made me really think about just how powerful my body was.
For the first time in my life, I started to like my body and focused on the positive things rather than all the things I wish I could change.
The confidence that I started to gain was something I never thought I would have. I, like many people, suffered from body image issues and always had something to complain about. The classes at the Suite were transforming my mind and body into what I’ve always wanted it to be.
I have a lot more to thank the suite for. Not only did it greatly impact my mind and body, but it created a whole new network of friends for me. Some of the instructors and other member have become friends of mine. One instructor even introduced me to my current fiancé and is going to be in my wedding!
So, when I say life-changing, I mean it.
The instructors take a genuine interest in our lives outside the Suite. They support everyone by hosting events that support local charities and holding classes at small businesses that are owned by their clients. They encourage us in the Suite and in life.
Last year, I ran my first marathon. A task that I never thought I would have done, and to be honest, I wasn’t all that interested in doing it before. But I did it! A big part of why I did was because I felt inspired by the strong women that go to the Suite and by the instructors there. They supported me through my journey, sometimes even altering their plans to be geared specially toward runners. Every instructor begins class by asking if there are any requests and they try their best work it into class.
After I finished my marathon, they celebrated my accomplishment.
They really feel like family to me. I could go on and on about all the wonderful amazing things that have happened in my life since I started going to the Suite. I’m not saying that if you go to the suite your story will be the same as mine.
What I can guarantee is that you’ll be surround by a fierce group of ladies, and sometimes a few smart men show up too. You will find an incredible group of people that will support you and notice all the strength that is inside you. All you have to do is show up and give it your best.”
Wow. This is what why we do what we do. Stories like this inspire us to keep pushing our own limits, and we encourage you to share yours, too!
